NEW DELHI: Private power distribution company BSES claims to have unearthed two major cases of power theft in Darya Ganj and Karol Bagh and has imposed penalties totalling around Rs.60 lakhs on the offenders.
In a midnight raid, a BSES squad searched an electroplating factory in Darya Ganj and allegedly found its owner stealing 115 KW of power.
After a continuous vigil of more than 15 days, BSES team swooped down on the factory and caught one Mustafa allegedly stealing electricity by directly hooking from a nearby power line.
Besides registering an FIR against him, BSES also imposed a penalty of around Rs.35 lakhs on Mustafa.
Similarly, BSES enforcement teams raided the 30-room Rudraksh Castle on Shankar Road and allegedly caught its management indulging in power theft of nearly 130 kW by tampering the electricity meter.
A penalty of over Rs 23 lakhs has been imposed and cases filed against its owner. Since January this year BSES has detected 362 cases of power theft in Darya Ganj and Chandni Chowk and imposed penalties of nearly Rs.9 crores on defaulters."We have intensified our campaign against power theft by adopting an area-based approach,"said a BSES spokesperson.
