`Ensure NSUI victory'NEW DELHI: Delhi Pradesh Congress Committee president Ram Babu Sharma on Wednesday exhorted party workers to ensure victory of the National Students' Union of India (NSUI) candidates in the upcoming Delhi University Students' Union (DUSU) polls.

Addressing a meeting of MLAs, municipal councillors, office-bearers and district and block presidents, Mr. Sharma said the Congress governments at the Centre and the State had taken special interest in enhancing allocation of funds for students' welfare.

JEs meet MinisterNEW DELHI: The CPWD Junior Engineers' Association has submitted to Union Urban Development Minister S. Jaipal Reddy a charter of demands pertaining to their grievances.

Among the main demands of the JEs are recruitment for existing vacancies, conducting the limited departmental competitive examination for promotions, regularisation of 37 days' strike period 1987 and finalisation of the report by a committee constituted by the CPWD to look into better promotional avenues for JEs.

Ganesh Chaturthi celebrations concludeNEW DELHI: A fortnight-long Ganesh Chaturthi celebrations at Sri Varasiddhi Vinayakar Temple in neighbouring Noida ended this past Sunday. This being the 20th year of celebrations at the temple, various religious and cultural programmes were organised.

The celebrations began with Lord Mahavishnu Sahasranamam, followed by Ganapathi Homam every morning. The Ganesha idol in the sanctum sanctorum was decorated in different styles everyday. At the culmination of the festival, the idol was taken out in a procession on a flower-bedecked, illuminated chariot on Monday night.

New management body electedNEW DELHI: The biennial elections for 2006-08 to elect a new managing committee of the Gulmohar Sports-cum-Community Centre was held at Gulmohar Park here over the weekend.

Anil Pandit was elected president for the two-year term. The other members of the new managing committee are vice-presidents I.C. Bhardwaj and J.S. Jain; and members Ajay Sharma, Amit Gupta, Praveen Soni, Praveen Upadhyay, Rajiv Saxena, Samir Sangal, Sanjeev Kumar, Subhash Saluja and Vinay Thakur.

Dance competition NEW DELHI: A religious dance competition will be held at Shri Digamber Jain Panchayati Mandir in Laxmi Nagar here this Saturday to mark "Daslakshan Mahaparva" of Jains. Organised jointly by the Tarun Mitra Parishad and Jain Milan-Bank Enclave, the competition will see participation of a large number of children.
