Dengue awareness campaign

NEW DELHI: A large number of school children took part in a dengue awareness campaign in the Chandni Chowk area here on Monday. Organised by local Councillor Brij Mohan Sharma, several leading personalities including the Member of Parliament from Chandni Chowk, Kapil Sibal, Delhi Health Minister Yoganand Shastri and MCD Standing Committee Chairman J. K. Sharma took part in the rally.

Children from 15 schools in the area participated in the rally carrying banners aimed at creating awareness about steps to prevent dengue.

Phone service hit

NEW DELHI: Telephones of more than 3,000 MTNL subscribers have been affected at Saket in South Delhi due to theft of underground cables. The theft took place on Aurobindo Marg leading to disruption of services n Press Enclave and A to L blocks at Saket.

MTNL officials are likely to take three days to replace the cables and restore the services.

Date extended

NEW DELHI: Indira Gandhi National Open University has extended the last date for submission of application forms for its four-year B.Sc. (Honours) programme in optometry and ophthalmic techniques up to October 31.

The programme is aimed at developing a multi-purpose ophthalmic manpower at paramedical level. The training will enable a student to become a competent person in providing service as an optician, optometrist and ophthalmic assistant to the community in urban, semi-urban and rural settings in private, semi-government and government sectors.

Candidates who have attained the age of 17 years on December 31 this year and have passed the Class XII examination of the Central Board of Secondary Education with at least 45 per cent aggregate are eligible for admission.

PNB bags award

NEW DELHI: Punjab National Bank has been conferred the National Award (1st prize) for excellence in lending to the tiny sector. Union Defence Minister Pranab Mukherjee presented the award to Chairman and Managing Director S.C.Gupta and General Manager V.K.Nagar on Saturday.

Alumni meet

NEW DELHI: The University School of Management Studies (USMS), part of Guru Gobind Singh Indraprastha University, organised its annual alumni meet, "Smriti 2006" at the Kashmere Gate campus here over the weekend.

The meet was attended by many USMS alumni.
