Woman killed; husband arrested
Dehra Dun: Police have arrested a man for allegedly killing his wife in Udham Nagar district here, police said on Tuesday. Ram Charan suspected his wife Anipama of infidelity and allegedly killed her with a sharp edged weapon yesterday in Kitchha area of the district, they said.
Six killed in accidents
Badaun: Six persons, including two women, were killed in three separate accidents in the district. Four people were killed and six others injured at Sahaswan crossing under Bisauli police station area when they were crushed by a speeding car yesterday, police said on Tuesday. In another incident, a girl was crushed to death by a truck while crossing the road Madgaon village. A woman was killed and her husband injured seriously when the motorcycle they were riding rammed into a jeep near Sahaswan, police said.
Meerut: Facing abject poverty, a woman on Tuesday threw her two daughters into a canal near here before jumping herself, police said. While the girls Shameem (12) and Muskaan (5) died, the woman -- Gulista -- is out of danger now, they said. According to neighbours, Gulista, a resident of Madhiyaee village in Meerut district tried to commit suicide along with her two daughters after she failed to arrange food for her family. Another daughter Shama (7) managed to escape and informed the villagers. The villagers saved Gulista but could not rescue her daughters, they said.
Rampur: The body of a five-year-old boy, who was kidnapped in December last year, was recovered from a ditch at Kharkheri village yesterday, police said on Tuesday. The boy's father had alleged that he was kidnapped and killed by a farmer from whose field he had gone to bring some sugarcanes. The farmer and another person were arrested after the recovery of the body, police said. As many as nine boys of different age groups were missing in the district, as per police records.
Faizabad: An idol was found defaced in Rekabganj locality under Kotwali police station on Tuesday morning, police sources said. Some local residents, who found a hand and face of the idol missing, informed the police and an FIR was registered, Superintendent of Police (city) V. D. Shukla said. Efforts are being made to replace the damaged idol, placed in a small temple near a women's hospital in Rekabganj locality, he said.
Srinagar: Three persons were on Tuesday arrested after Jammu and Kashmir police allegedly found 30 bottles of illicit liquor from their possession in Anantnag district. Shaban Wagay, his son Nazir Ahmed Wagay, both residents of Achabal, and Muzaffar Ahmed Hajam, a resident of Bulbul Bagh, Nowgam were arrested from Achabal, 70 kms from here, a police spokesman said. He said a case under section 48 of the Excise Act was registered against the accused.
