Wanted in a criminal assault case

NEW DELHI: Just hours before his marriage was to be solemnised at Sarai Rohilla here on Sunday, a 22-year-old man was arrested for allegedly criminally assaulting a minor girl for over a month.

According to the police, Santosh Jha, a resident of Indira Enclave in Sultanpuri who hails from Madhubani district of Bihar, was wanted in a criminal assault case registered a fortnight ago. He was arrested late on Sunday night after the victim's family gave a tip-off to the police that Santosh was getting married.

``A 17-year-old girl had registered a complaint at the Sultanpuri police station on April 16 that her neighbour Santosh had been criminally assaulting her for the past one month. The victim said that earlier she could not muster enough courage to speak to her parents regarding this or make a complaint against the accused. A First Information Report was registered against the accused and a hunt was launched," said a senior police officer.

"On Sunday night, the victim's family came to know about his marriage and informed us," said the officer, adding that teams were immediately rushed to arrest the accused. ``We acted fast to ensure that he was arrested before he got married. And we were successful in saving the life of another girl from getting ruined," said the officer.
