Will “gherao” Delhi Assembly on Sept. 13

Party organises a sit-in at Khazuri Khas in East Delhi

Delhiites fed up with Congress rule: Harsh Vardhan

NEW DELHI: Delhi Bharatiya Janata Party workers will “gherao” the Delhi Assembly on September 13 to demand regularisation of unauthorised colonies and an immediate stop to the demolitions being carried out there.

Announcing this at a sit-in demonstration at Khazuri Khas in East Delhi on Wednesday, Delhi BJP president Harsh Vardhan said the Capital’s citizens are fed up with the Congress regime and preparing for a change. He said just as the Congress was routed in the Municipal Corporation of Delhi elections, a similar fate awaits the party in the 2008 Delhi Assembly elections.Dr. Vardhan said various actions of the Congress have led to a situation where 40 lakh people living in unauthorised colonies of Delhi face displacement and unemployment. He charged that since most of these people were residents of Uttar Pradesh and Bihar, the Congress was deliberately not doing anything for their welfare.

Senior party MLA Sahab Singh Chauhan said the Delhi Government had only worked towards benefiting multi-national companies and big commercial houses in the past nine years of Congress rule under Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit.

Another MLA, Mohan Singh Bisht, said the Congress Government had failed to even provide basic amenities such as water, power, housing, road and security.

MCD Standing Committee chairman Vijender Gupta said while the Corporation, which is under BJP rule now, was not in favour of any demolition, it was compelled to follow court orders in this regard due to the failure of the Congress Government at the Centre and in Delhi to put forth the case of the residents properly.
