NOC for shopping mall on land reserved for district centre
NEW DELHI: Delhi Bharatiya Janata Party president Harsh Vardhan on Wednesday urged the Union Urban Development Minister to order a high-level enquiry into the role of the Delhi Development Authority in granting “No Objection” certificate to a shopping mall that came up at Raja Garden in West Delhi on land that was reserved by the Municipal Corporation of Delhi for construction of a district centre and a mini habitat centre.
Charging that over 5,000 square metres of land was sold to three big builders at cheap rates, Dr. Vardhan said the DDA was completely involved in this bungling. Moreover, in complete disregard of the law the builders were granted permission to join two plots to build the mall, he claimed, adding that under the building by-laws and the norms of the Delhi Urban Arts Commission two plots cannot be joined for such a construction.
Stating that the mention of constructing a district centre at these plots was also there in the Master Plan, the BJP leader said it was quite surprising that this land was given to the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation for constructing Raja Garden metro station, but then it was handed over to the builders. Alleging a role of Congress leaders in the scam, Dr. Vardhan said some of them had favoured the case of the builders. He said due to the allotment the Delhi Metro was compelled to construct the Raja Garden station on a different plot.
“Because of the change in plans, an MCD office, a post office and a petrol pump that were to come up at the site could also not be constructed there,” he charged.
