The Opposition Bharatiya Janata Party in Uttarakhand seems all geared up to raise several issues including Congress Government’s failure to utilise over 70 per cent of the annual budget, a clear employment and industrial policy and alleged attempts to sell off about 50 acres of prime land of the Rudrapur Krishi Mandi, during the winter session of the Uttarakhand Vidhan Sabha beginning today.

The utter failure of the Vijay Bahuguna Government in ushering in development can be seen in the non-utilisation of over 70 per cent of the budget.

Parts of the State did face natural calamities but that does not account for lack of utilisation of funds in the rest of Uttarakhand, the Leader of Opposition Ajay Bhatt said on Tuesday. Mr. Bhatt also accused the Chief Minister of neglecting his duty by working full time for his own election from Sitarganj Assembly seat and then spending another 45 days canvassing support for his son who unsuccessfully contested from the Tehri parliamentary seat.

Satish Lakhera, spokesman of the BJP wondered why the Government was shielding the two bureaucrats who were allegedly present at the Delhi farmhouse where the controversial liquor baron Ponty Chadha and his brother Hardeep Singh were gunned down last month.

Meanwhile, the Uttarakhand Kranti Dal (D) has threatened to stage a dharna outside the Vidhan Sabha seeking declaration of Gairsen as the permanent capital of the State.
