NEW DELHI: A Bangladesh national (22) has been arrested for alleged involvement in about two dozen cases of burglary, theft, auto-theft and snatching in different parts of the Capital.
In the wake of a spurt in theft and burglary cases in Fathepur Beri and incidents of snatching and auto-theft in Lodhi Colony, police zeroed in on Bangladeshi criminals active in the area.
Acting on a tip-off, police arrested Mohammad Masoom in Lodhi Colony on May 11 while he was trying to dispose of a computer allegedly stolen from a shop in Fathepur Beri. A stolen motorcycle, a gold chain and a knife were also allegedly seized from him.
The motorcycle was found to be stolen from Desh Bandhu Gupta Road and the chain was snatched from in Lodhi Colony, police said.
It was purportedly revealed during interrogation that Masoom came to Delhi a month ago and met his fellow countrymen Kabir and Abbas. They stayed in the Jama Masjid area and went to South Delhi at night to allegedly commit burglaries and thefts. They disposed of the stolen goods in Chor Bazar and Sunday Market in the Walled City.
Kabir and Abbas have gone to Bangladesh to dispose of stolen items.
