Noted ballad composer of Maharashtra Shahir Yogesh alias Diwakar Bhishnurkar died of old age in a hospital here on Monday night. He was 84.

Popular for renditions of his inspirational verses that fired the patriotic spirit among the masses, Shahir Yogesh had participated in the 1942 Quit India movement, undergoing imprisonment during the British rule.

He penned over 300 patriotic songs and 50 ballads and authored eleven books after composing his first verse at the age of 15. Yogesh was also the founder of Maharashtra Shahir Parishad. - PTI
