Uttarakhand Chief Minister Vijay Bahuguna on Wednesday ordered the police to lodge an FIR against Parmendra Dobhal, Additional Superintendent of Police, Haldwani on the basis of a complaint made by a woman. “Let the complaint be probed by the CID to know the truth behind the allegations made by the lady”, Mr. Bahuguna said.

The woman has accused the police officer of having exploited and cheated her.

It may be mentioned that the woman, a resident of Nainital, was on a fast since Monday outside the police headquarters here after senior officials did not take action against the accused officer. The police shifted her to hospital after she reported of giddiness and then to the Nari Niketan. Local social action groups raised a hue and cry against the police for admitting the woman to the Nari Niketan. Sushila Baluni, former Chairperson of the State Women’s Commission described the police action illegal as the woman was seeking justice and was not a criminal or destitute to be locked up in the Nari Niketan. “Sending the woman to Nari Niketan is denying justice to her”, Ms Baluni said.
