NEW DELHI: A day after a young couple allegedly administered poison to their children and consumed it themselves in Tilak Nagar here, the police on Saturday said the woman, who had survived the suicide attempt, was yet to record her statement.
“The woman has still not given a statement to sub-divisional magistrate who is conducting inquiry into the matter. The reason behind the incident will be known after her statement is recorded,” said Deputy Commissioner of Police (West) Sharad Aggarwal. He further said that the post-mortem report was awaited.
Pramod (37), a Delhi Jal Board employee, along with his wife Sonali (35) had allegedly consumed poison and also administered it to their daughter Jia and son Jatin late on Friday night. The incident came to light when the police received a call informing that a young couple had committed suicide along with their children in New Mahavir Nagar. The police rushed the four to the hospital where Pramod and the two children were declared brought dead.
The police said Pramod and Sonali married against the wishes of their families four years ago. After the marriage, Pramod's parents had snapped all ties with them. “Prima facie, it appears that some family dispute or financial crisis led the couple to take the extreme step,” said a senior police officer.
