Permit-holder taxis and auto-rickshaws running on compressed natural gas will now not be required to pay additional passenger or road tax while entering another State in the National Capital Region.

The NCR constitutes the whole of Delhi; Faridabad, Gurgaon, Rohtak, Sonepat, Rewari, Jhajjar, Mewat, Palwal and Panipat in Haryana; Meerut, Ghaziabad, Gautam Buddha Nagar (Noida), Bulandshahar and Baghpat in Uttar Pradesh; and Alwar in Rajasthan.

According to the NCR Planning Board, unrestricted movement of contract carriage like taxis and auto-rickshaws within the NCR was one of the policy proposals of the NCR Regional Plan-2021. It was also part of an agreement signed by the Delhi, UP, Haryana and Rajasthan governments in 2008.

The provision is expected to facilitate public commuting between Delhi and the rest of NCR and passengers who board/alight at the airport, railway stations and bus stations in Delhi and have to hire a taxi/auto-rickshaw to reach their place of residence/work outside Delhi but within the NCR. In case of non-compliance, a complaint can be lodged with the department concerned.
