Ram Babu convenes meeting to `sort out' all issues pertaining to Delhi

NEW DELHI: The stage is set for another confrontation between the party and the Government in Delhi with the Delhi Pradesh Congress Committee president Ram Babu convening a meeting of the executive committee on January 19. Mr. Sharma has also written to Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit to be present at the meeting that will "debate all issues" pertaining to Delhi and its citizens.

It may be recalled that Ms. Dikshit had staged a walkout from the last meeting of the executive committee held on April 19 that had led to a crisis in the party. It was only after the intervention of Ms. Gandhi that the matter was resolved and Ms. Dikshit got a reprieve.

Asked about the meeting, Mr. Sharma said he had convened the meeting at 4 p.m. on Thursday at the local party office to enable the party leaders and office-bearers to air their views on the current issue of demolitions and other related matters affecting the people of Delhi. The Chief Minister has been asked to attend the meeting and present her point of view, he added.

Mr. Sharma, who has already demanded convening of the Congress Legislature Party (CLP) meeting to discuss the all important issue of demolitions is preparing the ground to take on the Chief Minister once again.

Mr. Sharma said all the Council of Ministers of the Sheila Dikshit Cabinet had been invited along with the Delhi Mayor, Satbir Singh, MCD Standing Committee chairman Mukesh Goel and all Members of Parliament from Delhi to attend the meeting and present their point of view on all issues.

He said the party was faced with difficult times as a large number of issues affecting the people of Delhi have cropped up.
