NEW DELHI: It was a cold chaotic day for travellers on Thursday with several flights and trains being cancelled due to fog. More than 20, mostly private airline flights, were affected and eight trains were running behind schedule.
The fog caused low visibility procedure to be pressed into service early in the morning at both the domestic as well as the international airports.
Flights that had pilots trained in the newly installed CAT III B landing systems did not face any problems and kept to their schedules.
However, around 10 a.m. the low visibility procedure was withdrawn as the runway visibility improved to 800 metres.
Two trains -- Kalindi Express and Unchahar Express -- were cancelled, while two -- Lal Quila Express and Toofan Express -- were short-terminated.
Bad weather delayed eight trains. Due to poor visibility G.T. Express from Chennai was running more than six hours behind schedule. However, most other trains were delayed by two to three hours.
