NEW DELHI: The first meeting of the national committee on ``Commemoration of the 150th Anniversary of the First War of Independence - 1857'' will be held here on Thursday under the chairmanship of Prime Minister Manmohan Singh.

The Committee is expected to consider a number of proposals like identification, restoration and beautification of all buildings and sites associated with the first war of independence, an authoritative film on 1857 war of independence, setting up of a national museum on the freedom movement, coordinating celebrations with governments of Pakistan and Bangladesh as well at the level of historians, artists and media of the three countries. A number of dignitaries, including former Prime Ministers Atal Bihari Vajpayee, I.K. Gujral, Chandrasekhar, H.D. Deve Gowda, V.P. Singh, Leader of Opposition L.K. Advani and UPA Chairperson Sonia Gandhi, Union Ministers, Governors of various States, leaders of political parties and eminent personalities including Shyam Benegal, Javed Akhtar, Alok Rai, Prafull Bidwai, Saeed Naqvi, Ramchandra Guha, Prof. Romila Thapar and other are among the members of the national committee.
