NEW DELHI: While people regaled in the spirit of freedom on Independence Day by flying kites all over the Capital, for the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation the strings of these kites became a major cause for concern as they led to as many as 86 incidents of "tripping" during the day on coming into contact with the overhead wires of the Metro system.

A DMRC spokesperson said people had been requested not to fly kites near the Metro tracks since the strings lead to tripping of the system. On Tuesday, he said, there were 46 incidents of tripping on the Shahdara-Rithala Line I, while 40 such incidents were reported till about 8 in the evening on the Barakhamba-Dwarka Line III.

Though there was no disruption in train services because of these trippings and the trains operated punctually all through the day, the spokesperson said
