Even legal shops and areas sealed for no reason: Jagdish Mukhi
NEW DELHI: The Leader of the Opposition in the Delhi Assembly, Jagdish Mukhi, on Monday flayed the Municipal Corporation of Delhi over the ongoing sealing drive in the city, claiming that even legal shops and areas in West Delhi, South Patel Nagar and Karol Bagh that fall under the local commercial use are being sealed for no reason.
In a statement, Mr. Mukhi said the public notice issued by the Union Urban Development Ministry clearly laid out the action to be taken in respect of the unauthorised development in residential areas and where the trade is hazardous in nature. "However, the Corporation was not taking action in line with the notification. They have started sealing in local commercial areas that have come up since 1955." Strongly opposing action in all such areas, Mr. Mukhi urged Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit to intervene and issue directions to the Corporation not to take any sealing action in all such local commercial areas.
He demanded that action should also not be initiated against small-scale industrial units that had been given alternative plots at Bawana but had not been handed possession of the same so far.
Meanwhile, the MCD continued with its sealing drive in the Capital on Monday targeting nearly 100 illegal commercial establishments in different areas.
Nearly three-dozen shops were sealed in Shahdara-North Zone, while a dozen shops each were sealed in Rohini and South Zones. Similarly, about 30 illegal commercial establishments were targeted in Najafgarh Zone, while seven shops were sealed in City Zone and five in Karol Bagh Zone.
The areas covered during the drive on Monday included Darya Ganj, Moti Bagh, Krishna Nagar, Yusuf Sarai, Dilshad Garden, Khajuri, New Zafrabad, Bhajanpura, Dwarka, Naraina Vihar and Sarai Rohilla.
The MCD squads also demolished ongoing illegal constructions at Chittaranjan Park, Lajpat Nagar-IV, Rohini, Dilshad Garden and Bhajanpura.
