One charred to death

New Delhi: The driver of a Ford car was charred to death when the vehicle caught fire after a rashly-driven Tata 407 coming from the wrong side rammed into it on the DND flyover at New Friends' Colony in South Delhi on Thursday night. According to police, the accident occurred around 10-15 pm and the fire department was informed immediately. Later the fire fighters recovered the charred body of the Ford driver. The driver of Tata 407 has been arrested.

`Gangster' injured

NEW DELHI: An alleged member of the dreaded Jatin Sirohi gang was shot at and seriously injured in an encounter with the Special Cell of the Delhi police at Dwarka in South-West Delhi on Thursday. The police claim to have recovered a .30 bore firearm from his possession.

Deputy Commissioner of Police Alok Kumar said the Special Cell received a tip-off on Thursday that Pradeep alias Bawla would pass by Dwarka on a motorcycle. The police laid a trap and intercepted the motorcycle on which the suspect was moving in Dwarka Sector 11.

The police asked Pradeep to surrender but he allegedly opened fire at them. According to the police, Pradeep sustained gunshot injuries in retaliatory fire.

Nabbed for burglaries

NEW DELHI: Four persons allegedly involved in burglaries have been arrested by the Crime Branch of the Delhi police. An alleged receiver of stolen property has also been arrested.

According to the police, two of the accused -- Jahangir alias Dhakia and Afzaal -- were arrested at Sarojini Nagar on Tuesday. Subsequently two others, Jahangir alias Datia and Mohammad Lukmaan, along with jeweller Punit Kumar, were arrested.

Cheating case

NEW DELHI: One person who had allegedly been using credit cards procured from various banks on the basis of fake documents has been arrested by the East Delhi police.

According to the police, Vineet Sharma, assistant manager with Videocon, Jhandewalan, had noticed that one person Raj Kumar Santoshi was using several credit cards to make bulk purchases. On suspicion, he approached him at his address at C-Block at Guru Ram Dass Nagar in Shakarpur around 6-30 p.m.

But the person who met him identified himself as Neeraj Kumar Singh.

Realising that something was amiss, Mr. Sharma informed the police, who on interrogating the suspect recovered fake credit cards, debit cards and PAN cards.

Held for theft

NEW DELHI: Three persons who allegedly stole cash and jewellery from the bag of a businessman at Chandni Chowk here on November 20 have been arrested by the North Delhi police. The police have recovered cash and jewellery worth Rs. 7 lakhs from the accused.

Mohammad Tayyab had come to Chandni Chowk carrying 630 gm of jewellery and Rs. 1.5 lakhs in cash. His bag was cut open by three persons. The CCTV cameras captured the incident and the police managed to arrest an accused, Mohammad Saleem. Later Mohammad Kurban and Munir Hussain were arrested.
