NEW DELHI: Total Quality Management of the administrative functions and networking of Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) to allow round the year access has been initiated on a warfooting, Vice-chancellor V.N. Rajasekharan Pillai announced here on Sunday.

The top management of the IGNOU had been very keen to foster enhanced efficiency, transparency and ease of use in its systems, and is driving the current initiative, he said, adding that important ingredients include automation of core processes and an extended period of training and handholding of IGNOU.

The new system will ensure efficient and transparent administration, effective monitoring and control, and the building of a knowledge base, enabling a robust decision support system and real time information to all its stakeholders, particularly students.

Internally, all functions of the IGNOU ranging from human resource management, administration and other establishment functions would be computerised and this will enable the University to utilize its scarce manpower resources in an optimal manner. The solution would include a Wide Area Network and a high-end data centre, to allow 24x7x365 uptime.
