NEW DELHI: The Delhi High Court on Thursday reserved judgment on a petition challenging the Delhi Government notification imposing a complete ban on use of plastic bags in the Capital.
The Court reserved the judgment on conclusion of arguments by counsel for the Government and the petitioner, the All-India Plastic Industries’ Association. The Court had on Wednesday refused to stay the notification as sought by the petitioner. The Government had issued the notification on January 7 this year following a direction by the Court last year on a PIL seeking a ban on use of plastic bags in the Capital. Challenging the notification, the petitioner submitted that the ban was arbitrary and contrary to the Centre’s rules. The Government had failed to take into consideration the practicality and feasibility before imposing the ban, the petitioner said. Counsel for the Government submitted that the manufacturers were not affected adversely as it had not banned the production of plastic bags.
