NEW DELHI: A 19-year-old daily wager has been arrested in connection with the murder of a woman earlier this month. She owned a telephone booth in Old Rajendra Nagar here.

Annu alias Anita (33) was found lying in a pool of blood in her ground floor booth on May 4 when her father Hukum Chand Gogia returned from the market in the afternoon. The body bore deep stab wounds on the neck. The house was ransacked, but no valuables were missing.

During investigation, Anita’s husband Yashpal told police that five mobile phones meant for recharge were missing. Tracking the call details of the stolen phones, police arrested Ajay Kumar, a resident of Sultanpur in U.P.

They said Ajay used to visit the booth to call his family. His sister’s wedding was fixed for June 6 and he needed money. On May 4, he came to the booth to make a call and asked Anita for Rs.1,500. But she turned down his request. He got infuriated and allegedly slit her neck with a knife.
