The chief of the banned private militia of landlords in Bihar, ‘Ranvir Sena', Brahmeshwar Singh, who has 17 cases against him, has been released on bail after nine years in jail.

“Brahmeshwar Singh has been released from jail on Friday morning after a Jehanabad court granted his prayer for bail in the last case registered under Arms Act,” said Jail Superintendent Surendra Kumar.

The Sena chief was in jail for the last nine years in 17 cases, including those related to Dalit carnages in Bihar, after he was arrested from Patna in 2002.

Singh was earlier granted bail in 16 other cases.

Jehanabad Judicial Magistrate Dipak Kumar allowed his prayer for bail on Thursday Ranvir Sena has been involved in several massacres of Dalits in the State. The Sena is also allegedly involved in killing of 61 Dalits at Laxmanpur Bathe in Jehanabad district in December 1, 1997. - PTI
