NEW DELHI: Tamil actor Vijay met Congress general secretary and in-charge of Youth Congress, Rahul Gandhi, here and discussed the invitation extended by the latter to join the party.

Sources said the meeting took place on Monday at Mr. Gandhi’s residence here in a hush-hush manner.

The actor had sought some time to respond to the invitation.

Besides wooing Vijay, who belongs to a family of DMK sympathisers and had, in the recent past, proposed to launch a political party, there is also a move to rope in Prabhu, actor and son of thespian Sivaji Ganesan.

Sivaji Ganesan was with the Congress for several years before he launched a party.

Tamil Nadu Congress Committee president K.V. Thangkabalu told The Hindu that the party would welcome anyone who accepted its policies and programmes and wished to work under the leadership of Sonia Gandhi and Mr. Rahul Gandhi.

Virudhunagar Congress MP and election commissioner for the organisational poll in the All India Youth Congress, Manicka Tagore, a confidant of Mr. Gandhi, confirmed the meeting and said there was a possibility of Vijay joining the organisation.
