NEW DELHI: A court here has sentenced three persons to three years’ rigorous imprisonment for attacking a constable with a surgical blade while he was on duty three years ago.

Additional Sessions Judge Bharat Parashar sentenced Pradeep, Anil Kumar and Appu Bali and also slapped a Rs. 6,000 fine on each of them.

The Judge rejected the plea of the accused that the police had implicated them in the case.

According to the prosecution, Constable Rakesh Kumar along with his colleague Constable Amit Kumar was on patrol duty outside a park at Paschim Vihar in West Delhi on June 23, 2004, when the accused attacked him after he tried to stop them for questioning. Pradeep was arrested on the spot while the two others were arrested subsequently.

The accused have been found guilty under Sections 307 (attempt to murder), 353 (assault on public servant to deter him from duty) and 186 (obstructing public servant in discharge of his duty) of the Indian Penal Code.
