NEW DELHI: A two-day human rights seminar on “Implementation of the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities” organised at the School of International Studies at Jawaharlal Nehru University here concluded on Tuesday.

The event was inaugurated by United Nations Committee on Human Rights member J. N. Bhagwati and chaired by Canadian High Commissioner to India David Malone. Several speakers highlighted the lapses in India’s disability policy. Delivering the concluding remarks on the occasion, Working Group on Disability chairman G. N. Karna said: “The greatest need of the hour is neither more programming nor specific entitlements for disabled individuals. Instead, what is required is reorientation of the conceptual framework of disability and rehabilitation issues from socio-political and rights paradigms.”
