NEW DELHI: Lawyers of the Delhi High Court and trial courts in the Capital abstained from appearing for their clients on Tuesday in protest against the killing of lawyers in the serial bomb blasts in Varanasi, Lucknow and Faizabad district courts campuses in Uttar Pradesh last week.
Against triple blast
The lawyers abstained from the courts on a joint call by the Delhi High Court Bar Association and the Delhi Bar Council.
Typists, notaries and stamp vendors having offices on the lower courts’ campuses also struck work in support of the families of the blasts victims.
The judges pronounced judgments scheduled earlier, but they did not take up for consideration pending or new cases in the absence of counsel.
In these cases, proxy counsel appeared on behalf of the appearing counsel and sought -- and got -- adjournments.
