New Delhi: He got into the record books pursuing a hobby. Keshab Swain was fond of breaking green coconuts. He now holds a record for doing the same. Keshab alias Tophan hailing from Baharpur village of Ganjam district in Orissa recently got into the Limca Book of Records for breaking 135 green coconuts in 7 minutes and 26 seconds with his elbow, knee, head alternatively and sometimes squashing them between his palms.

“I started it as a hobby. I wanted to do something rare. I knew that doing something different would make me famous,” he says. Trained in martial arts by various “gurus”, he adds, “while anybody else look for

instruments to break coconuts, I have the ability to break 100 green coconuts within minutes.”

Tophan, who has also launched his website and uploaded his stunt videos on www.youtube.com, claims that he can also climb up and slide down from a height of 20-30 feet with the help of a rope.

Moreover he can also cover miles crawling on elbows. Earlier, he tried entering The Guinness Book of World Records by breaking 72 green coconuts in just one minute but his feat was not acknowledged as the coconuts were

not husked as required. Tophan who earns his livelihood by selling papads and training youngsters in martial arts says the biggest regret for him is that he is yet to receive any help from state government. “Though people love to enjoy my stunts and watch me break the coconuts, hardly anyone comes forward to help me. I have approached the State government but they are yet to respond,” he says.

Tophan who now plans to supplement his meagre income by commercialising his talents says, “I have contacted

organisers of different shows and programmes to feature me as a crowd-puller. I have also decided be a stuntman and fight instructor.”- PTI
