Gurgaon: A person was killed and 11 injured when an allegedly inebriated taxi driver ran his vehicle over them on Sunday evening.

Sixty two-year-old Ram Chander was seriously injured when the taxi, reportedly driven by Ashok Pahwa, ran over him at Mahavir Chowk here and died while he was being taken to hospital, police said. Pahwa was arrested after the incident, Deputy Commissioner of Police (West) Rakesh Arya said.

Four seriously injured -- Jyoti Rai, Bharti Rai, Anuradha and Lalesh -- were referred to hospitals in Delhi.

Dharambir, Sushma, Ramesh Mandal, Suwalal, Raman, six-month-old child Sona and seven-year-old Shristi were being treated at Civil Hospital, he said.

The taxi, having Delhi registration number, was coming from Mehrauli Road. The driver lost control and hit two rickshaws, one bicycle and pedestrians standing near the gate of Police Line, Mr. Arya said. -- PTI
