NEW DELHI: Some students of Guru Gobind Singh Indraprastha University at Kashmere Gate here held a demonstration on Thursday in protest against the fee hike announced by the administration for those studying in the University Schools and Indira Gandhi Institute of Technology.

A notice dated September 18 issued by the university’s Controller of Finance stated that there would be an increase of Rs.5,000 per student per programme on the existing fee for the current academic year.

The notice also mentioned that the students would be required to pay an additional Rs.10,000 and Rs.15,000 per student per programme on the pre-revised fee in 2010-11 and 2011-12 academic years, respectively.

Several students representing the University Schools and IGIT gathered outside the Administrative Block on the campus on Thursday protesting against the “unjustified hike”.

However, Vice-Chancellor D. K. Bandyopadhyay said a committee has been set up to look into the “communication gap” on the fee hike issue.
