NEW DELHI: Yudhbir Singh Dadwal is all set to take over as the new Police Commissioner of Delhi.

It is reliably learnt that Mr. Dadwal’s name has been cleared for the post by the Prime Minister’s Office and a formal order is expected in a couple of days.

Special Commissioner with the Delhi police at present, Mr. Dadwal is a 1974 batch IPS officer of Union Territory cadre. He has remained in active policing in Delhi, having headed the security, operations and intelligence wings.

Though several names were doing the rounds for the top job in the wake of reports that Police Commissioner K. K. Paul is set to join the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC), the choice narrowed down to two IPS officers of Union Territory cadre -- Mr. Dadwal and Kiran Bedi, the country’s first woman IPS officer.

Initially the name of Jammu and Kashmir Police Director-General Gopal Sharma, a 1972 batch IPS officer, also figured among the probables for heading the Delhi police.
