NEW DELHI: The Supreme Court on Tuesday granted protection from sealing operations to media professionals functioning from their residential areas in Lutyens’ Bungalow Zone here.

A Bench headed by Justice Arijit Pasayat and Justice D.K. Jain extended the protection to journalists while hearing a petition filed by Delhi Union of Journalists president S.K. Pande. The Court had earlier granted exemption from sealing to lawyers, doctors and chartered accountants.

DUJ counsel Rajiv Dhawan argued before the Court that media professionals should be treated like other professionals under Clause 15.8 of the Master Plan for Delhi-2021 permitting them to carry on professional activities from residential premises.

The Bench directed that the matter be listed for hearing on July 23 along with other related petitions.
