Encroachment removal drive

NEW DELHI: The Municipal Corporation of Delhi on Tuesday initiated a major encroachment removal drive at Loha Mandi, Welcome and Seelampur in Shahdara (North) Zone on instructions from the Delhi High Court-appointed Monitoring Committee.

At Loha Mandi, 30 shops had been allotted by the MCD Slum and Jhuggi Jhompri Department. All the shopkeepers had encroached on municipal land by extending their shops. All the encroachments were removed and about 1,200 sq. metres of municipal land recovered, said an MCD release.

Festival on dance draws to a close

NEW DELHI: The three-day third Guru-Shishya Parampara Festival held at India International Centre here drew to a close on Sunday.

The festival, focusing on various dance forms, was a tribute to "gurutattava'' in Indian culture. The emphasis was on the styles of various "gharanas'' of Indian classical dances and the tradition of "guru-shishya parampara''. The festival was organised by Madhumita Raut and her dance school "Jayantika".

Delhi NCP dissolves state units

NEW DELHI: Delhi Nationalist Congress Party president Ramvir Singh Bidhuri has dissolved all the State-level units of the party.

He said all district and block level units and appointments made at the State level stood null and void. Also, all the cells and other bodies including the youth wings had been dissolved.

The decision was taken after consultations with NCP president Sharad Pawar and general secretary Tariq Anwar, who felt that the party organisation in the Capital needed to be revamped.
