Says it would bring a turnaround by winning all the three seats of power MCD, Delhi Govt. and Centre
NEW DELHI: Sensing a thumping victory in the Municipal Corporation of Delhi election, the Delhi Bharatiya Janata Party on Tuesday declared that the party will this time create a new record by winning about 200 seats in the 272-member Corporation.
Delhi BJP president Harsh Vardhan said during the election campaign and public meetings in different parts of Delhi, the party leaders have been repeatedly told by the people that they want to get rid of the Congress now.
"The voters believe that only BJP can change the fate and face of Delhi," he said, adding that "90 per cent of the people believe that sealing, demolition, price rise, inflated power bills, and scarcity of water, basic amenities and parking facilities are all due to the inefficiency of the Congress which is only interested in votes and not the welfare of the masses." Dr. Vardhan said by sitting over the file on hanging of Parliament attack case accused Afzal Guru, Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit has disregarded not only security concerns but also the interests of the nationalist Muslims. He said the decision of the Congress to withdraw the Army from Jammu and Kashmir was also fraught with danger as it would in a way accord a red carpet welcome to the terrorists into the State.
Claiming that a vast majority of people believe that the Congress lacks the will to solve the problems of Delhi, the senior BJP leader said at present the Congress is occupying all the three seats of power -- MCD, Delhi Government and Centre -- and if its leaders would have desired they could have resolved most of the problems afflicting Delhi. However, while the leaders have been busy making benefits themselves, he charged, a great opportunity has been lost to find a solution to Delhi's main problems.
But now, he said, the BJP would bring a turnaround in Delhi's fortunes by winning all these three seats of power one by one. The people want that Delhi should be given a special status and a special economic package for solving its problems and making it a truly international grade city. And he said, the BJP would address all these issues and also bring about a drastic change in the law and order and police system so that Delhi is rid of crime and becomes a city of peace.
The BJP in-charge of Delhi affairs Vijay Kumar Malhotra said Delhi has become a very unsafe city under the Congress.
Also, he accused the Congress of wasting Rs. 1,700 crore in the name of cleaning the Yamuna, that still remains extremely polluted.
On the other hand, he said, senior Congress leaders such as Union Urban Development Minister S. Jaipal Reddy were still issuing misleading statements on the new Master Plan providing solutions to all the problems of Delhi when the reality was that it is still under scrutiny of the Supreme Court and its future is undecided.
Also, he charged that while in its campaign the Congress is claiming that people affected by sealing would be rehabilitated, so far no person affected by sealing has been rehabilitated.
