Meeting chaired by State party president Harsh Vardhan

NEW DELHI: The Delhi BJP Election Committee on Saturday began intensive discussions on selection of candidates for the 272 wards of the Municipal Corporation of Delhi that will go to the polls on April 5.

The discussions began for seats falling under the New Delhi, Sadar, Chandni Chowk and Karol Bagh districts and it was announced that the list of candidates would be released once the process of selecting candidates from the remaining 12 districts was completed.

During the meeting chaired by Delhi BJP president Harsh Vardhan and attended by the Election Committee members, party legislators, district presidents, organisation general secretaries, district in-charges, observers and other important office bearers, each applicant was examined on three vital points decided by the party. After consultation, scrutiny of candidates was done. A panel of the best candidates was then chosen for wards falling under the four districts and the final candidate would be chosen from among those short-listed.

Commitment important

The BJP has decided that tickets would be given to those who are fully committed and dedicated to the policies, traditions and programmes of the party. Also, the candidates should be capable of winning the election and should be popular in their area with qualities of leadership, service and commitment.
