NEW DELHI: Delhi Health Minister Kiran Walia on Saturday said that lifestyle disorders are on the rise in the country in general and Delhi in particular.

Inaugurating the annual ten-day health carnival ‘The MTNL Perfect Health Mela’ at the NDMC Mini Stadium in Laxmi Bai Nagar here in the Capital, she also voiced her concern over increasing lifestyle disorders among middle class and upper middle class people.Delhi Chief Secretary Rakesh Mehta said the only way to tackle lifestyle disorders is to adopt a holistic lifestyle. Also present on the occasion was Delhi Mayor Kanwar Sain who said that the rising obesity epidemic in the city had affected almost 35 per cent of the population.

“Anaemia is rampant in society and needs to be controlled. We at the Municipal Corporation of Delhi are also doing a general public survey about the disease and distributing iron tablets to people with anaemia,” he noted.

Nearly 10,000 people visited the mela on the first day and availed of free health-check ups being provided there. They were also treated to a live cultural performance by the Sindhi Academy.
