About 150 students have signed up
Participants will get a certificate
NEW DELHI: Encouraging the youth to experience the upcoming Delhi Assembly elections up close and personal, People’s Action has launched a novel initiative together with the Bharatiya Janata Party and the United Students.
To familiarise youngsters with the political process, a six-day workshop is being organised beginning Friday to inform them about the democratic exercise.
Volunteers aged between 18 and 21 years have been invited from different universities in the Capital. Those above 21 years can also take part in the project.
The participants will also get to work with People’s Action president Sanjay Kaul who joined the BJP recently.
“The idea is to get those who watch from the sidelines to actively participate in the democratic exercise. There is no better place to start than to be in the midst of an election,” said Ekta Marwaha, a student of Delhi University’s Hans Raj College, who is also a member of United Students. Mr. Kaul has been the chief mentor of that group.
“We want to create awareness among the youth. The workshop will tell them about ground realities, vote-bank politics, how tickets are distributed, how nominations are filed and how money and muscle power come into play,” she added. The initiative has got a good response so far and about 150 students have signed up for the workshop that will be conducted at the BJP office on Pandit Pant Marg. The participants will be awarded a certificate.
