Congress councillor was allegedly caught using 25 sacks of MCD’s cement for personal use

NEW DELHI: Mayor Arti Mehra has suggested a vigilance inquiry into last week’s incident in which a Congress councillor was allegedly caught misusing the Municipal Corporation of Delhi’s allotted quota of cement for personal purposes.

Amid loud protests by the Congress at a meeting of the House on Monday, the Mayor called the incident a “serious issue” and assured the members that a thorough inquiry would be conducted into the matter. The Congress, for its part, maintained that the councillor alone should not be made the “target” of the inquiry and other officials and engineers involved should also be summoned for questioning.

Though Municipal Commissioner K.S. Mehra directed the Chief Engineer to look into the matter and take necessary action, persistent sloganeering by the Congress less than an hour into the meeting led to adjournment of the House.

Prithvi Singh Rathore, the Congress councillor from Peeragarhi in West Zone, was allegedly caught using 25 sacks of the civic body’s cement for personal use this past weekend.
