Party does not believe in barriers of caste and community: Shahnawaz
NEW DELHI: A large number of Muslim women, including former Municipal Councillor from Jama Masjid Talat Sultana, senior Nationalist Congress Party leader Bilkis Bano and journalist Nazma joined the Bharatiya Janata Party at a ceremony organised at its Delhi unit headquarters here on Wednesday.
They were welcomed into the party fold by former Union Minister and BJP Minority Morcha national president Shahnawaz Hussain, Delhi BJP president Harsh Vardhan and Morcha national general secretary Abdul Rasheed.
Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Hussain claimed that the BJP was the political party that had given maximum facilities and honour to the Muslims.
He said the party did not believe in barriers of castes and community and stood for equal justice, honour and rights to all citizens. On the other hand, he charged that other political parties had “socially and politically exploited the Muslims with the help of the policy of appeasement”.
Mr. Hussain also made a mention of the Haj facilities to point out how the BJP had done more for the Muslims than the Congress. He said when he was the Union Civil Aviation Minister during BJP rule, arrangements had been made for Haj pilgrimage by air to Makkah Madina from 14 places in India. Prior to that during 46 years of Congress rule, the service was available from only four places.
Dr. Vardhan assured the new entrants into the party that they would get their ``full honour and rights” in the BJP. He claimed that Muslims were now disillusioned with the other parties and had come realise that the BJP was the only party which would take all the people together and proceed on the path of development.
For their part, Ms. Sultana, Dr. Bano and Ms. Nazma said the Muslims of the city would vote for the BJP in large numbers and bring it to power in Delhi.
