Chief Minister, colleagues meet Union Urban Development Minister Jaipal Reddy to thank him

NEW DELHI: Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit and her Cabinet colleagues met Union Urban Development Minister Jaipal Reddy here on Tuesday to thank him for the efforts made by his Ministry to regularise the Capital’s unauthorised colonies and authorising the Delhi Government to issue necessary notifications in this regard.

During the meeting, Ms. Dikshit expressed confidence that the issue of notification would pave the way for speedy regularisation of unauthorised colonies in the Capital and lead to their all-round development.

The Union Government had on October 5, 2007, issued directions seeking that all unauthorised colonies in Delhi submit their maps and other documents along with their applications for regularisation. Thereafter the residents’ welfare associations and residents’ societies of 1,603 unauthorised colonies had filed their applications by the last date of January 31, 2008. Since some colonies had submitted two or three applications, after the scrutiny 1,409 colonies were found to be genuine.

Documents of these colonies had been sent by the Delhi Urban Development Department to the Municipal Corporation of Delhi and the Delhi Development Authority for further enquiry which was scheduled for completion within two months.

Development Minister Raj Kumar Chauhan had recently announced that according to the Central Government guidelines, all these colonies have been divided into three categories. Also, development works had been started in all these colonies.

Last week, Union Minister of State for Urban Development Ajay Maken announced that his Ministry had notified the regulations for regularisation of the colonies. He had stated that the outer limit for the process of regularisation to be completed has been fixed at six months.
