To meet the requirements of new frontiers of knowledge and protect rights of people

JODHPUR: Union Home Minister Shivraj Patil on Saturday called for extending legal awareness to meet the requirements of new frontiers of knowledge and protect the rights of people in the age of “emerging inter-dependence of countries”.

Addressing the second Convocation at the National Law University here, Mr. Patil said the legal professionals should devise new ways of reaching out to common people to help them confront challenges both on the national and global fronts. “When we are searching for life on other planets, we have to ensure evolution of law to face any eventuality,” he said.

Mr. Patil said the syllabus of legal education should serve the needs of the changing society and added that the law curriculum should be integrated with the modern science and technological education.

“The law universities have an important role in inculcating the spirit of exploration among the youth,” he said.

The University awarded graduation degrees to 69 students, post-graduate degrees to 11 students and doctorates to two research scholars at the ceremony, while eight students were given gold medals for academic distinction.

The Chief Justice of the Rajasthan High Court and Chancellor of the University, Justice Narain Roy, presided over the ceremony.
