NEW DELHI: The College of Art here got new, modern building blocks on Saturday. With that, Delhi has taken a big leap forward in the field of art and also got a new spot where international exhibitions and gatherings can be organised.
Dedicating the new blocks to the college, Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit said the College of Art has a fine reputation and it is time it gains recognition the world over.
Need for maintenance
Underlining the need for proper maintenance of the building, Ms. Dikshit said a society should be constituted for proper monitoring so that the buildings may be used for international events.The additional blocks include the main block housing the Art Gallery on the ground floor and an auditorium on the first floor with three studios on different floors. The additional studio spaces will accommodate the expansion of the existing disciplines of Painting, Sculpture and the Foundation Classes and also the proposed three new BFA and MFA courses in Art History, Graphics-Printmaking and Visual Communication to be introduced from the 2008-09 academic year.
The function was attended by eminent artist Satish Gujral, Secretary (Training and Technical Education) G. Narendra Kumar, Principal Secretary (PWD) B. Prasad, and college Principal Vijay Mohan. All former principals of the College were also present on the occasion.
