NEW DELHI: Works of leading artists including M. F. Husain, Jamini Roy, F. N. Souza, M. V. Dhurandhar and Gaitonde were showcased at a special preview here on Tuesday. The art works were brought here by art connoisseur Maher Dadha ahead of an auction to be held in Bangalore on January 24.
Auction house for Indian art
Maher, who has established the Bid and Hammer Fine Art Auctioneers, says he wants to popularise contemporary Indian art not only in big cities but also smaller ones. “The auction house will help the development of the still very nascent modern and contemporary Indian art and also unearth the tremendous potential of decorative arts and antiques,” adds Dadha. “India is now ready for an auction house that will conduct generalist and specialist sales across cities,” he says.
The preview in had rare and unavailable works of Indian artists including contemporary ones. Other works on display included silverware, frames and furniture.
To service all types of art collectors and investors, Bid and Hammer Fine Art Auctioneers plan to have a national presence across metros and smaller cities.
