Man sentenced for assaulting wife to death
New Delhi: A city court on Saturday sentenced a man to five years rigorous imprisonment for brutally assaulting his wife who later succumbed to her injuries in a city hospital.
Additional Sessions Judge Rakesh Tiwari, partly allowing the leniency plea of convict Sunil Kumar that his four kids would become almost orphans, awarded lesser punishment by saying, "the convict was inadvertent in giving beatings to the victim without thinking of consequences."
As the intention to kill the victim Gita was absent, the ASJ convicted Sunil under section 304 part-II (causing death by negligence) of the IPC.
On the fateful evening of January 10, last year, a drunken Sunil came to his Karawal Nagar residence in North-East Delhi and started abusing his wife. When the victim resisted, the convict got enraged and started beating her.
Later, the victim was hospitalised in a city hospital where she died because of the injuries.
NEW DELHI: Two persons have been arrested by the North-East Delhi police for allegedly killing a 32-year-old man at Nand Nagri in North-East Delhi on January 8. One of the accused apparently had friendly relations with the wife of the deceased and had decided to eliminate him when he came to know that the man was trying to force his wife into prostitution.
The body of Sukh Sagar Gupta, a resident of Nand Nagri, was found near a gutter on January 9 in the morning. Following investigations, the police arrested the two accused, Anand, and his friend Raman Kumar. Some of the belongings of the deceased were recovered from their possession.
Murder accused held
NEW DELHI: The Delhi police on Saturday arrested two murder accused - absconding for over a fortnight - from inside the Rohini court premises where the duo had come to surrender before a court.
The two men were on their way to surrender before Metropolitan Magistrate Vijay Shanker when they were unceremoniously ousted by policemen lying in wait near Gate no-2 of the court complex.
The duo - Mehmood and Rahees - were dumped inside a waiting police van and taken to the Samaypur Badli police station.
According to their counsel Islamuddin, who was present there at the spot of the "police action" but was "unable to help as he was on strike", the two accused, along with five others had on January 8, this year murdered one Munshi after an argument over some financial deals.
