Two killed in separate accidentsNEW DELHI: Two persons were killed in separate road accidents at Sangam Vihar in South Delhi on Wednesday.

In the first case, a 28-year-old auto-rickshaw driver, Surinder Kumar, was hit by a truck around 12 noon. Surinder died on the spot. The truck driver has been arrested.

In the other case, 30-year-old Shiv Charan was knocked down by an unknown vehicle. He died on the spot.

Domestic help found deadNEW DELHI: A 40-year-old woman domestic help was found dead at the Chittaranjan Park residence of a software engineer in South Delhi on Tuesday.

According to the police, K. Acharya, a software engineer with a multinational company, lodged a complaint alleging that his domestic help Saraswati was found dead in the drawing room of his house late on Tuesday night when he returned from work.

Saraswati had joined work at Mr. Acharya's place about two weeks ago. His family has been out of station for the past one month.

The body has been sent for post-mortem to ascertain the exact cause of death. Initial investigations suggested that she died of electrocution.

U.P. cop held for taking bribeNEW DELHI: An Uttar Pradesh police sub-inspector has been arrested by the Anti-Corruption Branch of the Delhi Government on charges of accepting a bribe of Rs 5,000 from a person to settle a case in his favour.

The accused, Dharampal Singh, was posted with the Special Investigation Staff at the Mainpuri office of the Superintendent of Police. He had allegedly demanded Rs. 50,000 from the complainant in a case registered at the Kotwali police station in Mainpuri to turn the probe in his favour. He was arrested on Tuesday.

MCD official arrested for demanding bribeNEW DELHI: A survey officer of the Slum and JJ Department of the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) has been arrested by the Anti-Corruption Branch of the Delhi Government for allegedly accepting a bribe of Rs. 5,000 for clearing a file pending with him.

The Anti-Corruption Branch received a complaint from Chatar Singh Rochhoya alleging that Harish Chander Bachani, a survey officer with the civic body, was demanding Rs 5,000 to clear a file pertaining to allotment of land for Rochhoya Public School at Nangloi in West Delhi. Subsequently, a trap was laid and the accused caught red-handed on Monday.

`Tantrik' arrested for assaulting womanNEW DELHI: A "tantrik" has been arrested by the North-East Delhi police on charges of criminally assaulting a 43-year-old woman, taking her photographs in compromising positions and extorting Rs. 30 lakhs from her.

In her compliant, the victim said the accused, Abid Ali, had treated her son for some illness in 1999. At his instance, the family changed its residence from Gandhi Nagar to Gamri. Last year, the accused made the victim drink something laced with sedative, after which he criminally assaulted her and took her photographs in a compromising position when she was in an inebriated state. The accused then began extorting money from the victim and also tried to assault her daughter. Acting on the complaint, the police have arrested Abid Ali.
