Naib Tehsildar arrested on bribe chargeNEW DELHI: A naib tehsildar has been arrested by the Central Bureau of Investigation on charges of demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs. 10,000 from a person to disburse his compensation sanctioned by the State Government for the death of his grandfather and uncle in the 1984 riots.
The complainant, whose name has been withheld to prevent further harassment, approached the CBI alleging that a compensation of about Rs. 2.86 lakhs was not being cleared by a naib tehsildar, I.K. Thakkar. When he met him, Mr. Thakkar allegedly demanded Rs. 10,000 for the job.
Acting on the complaint, the CBI laid a trap and caught the accused red handed on Tuesday.

Three arrestedNEW DELHI: Three employees of Pearl Agro Corporation Limited (PACL) have been arrested on charges of registering a false case of robbery at Paschim Vihar in West Delhi on Tuesday. The police have recovered the stolen amount at their instance.
Around 6-30 p.m. on Tuesday, a PACL employee, Vijay Pal Sharma, lodged a complaint at Paschim Vihar police station alleging that he and two other employees were on their way to deposit Rs. 1.5 crores of the company in Corporation Bank when four persons in a Maruti Zen intercepted them and robbed them of the bag containing the money.
However, during investigations the police found that there was more than three hours delay in reporting the incident and Vijay Pal and two of his colleagues had not raised any alarm at the place where the robbery had supposedly taken place. During questioning, the three kept changing their statements regarding the sequence of events, raising suspicion about their involvement.
The three, Vijay Pal, Radha Krishan Sharma and Munna Mahato, finally broke down and confessed to having stage-managed the robbery.
Cop wins gold medalNEW DELHI: A Delhi Police constable has won a gold medal in a wrestling competition held in South Africa.
Constable Sanjeet Kumar Dangi won the gold at the Johnnie Reitz Big-5 Wrestling Competition held at Johannesburg between August 5 and 7. He defeated a South African wrestler in the final round. Police Commissioner K.K. Paul on Wednesday congratulated Constable Sanjeet, who is posted with the 2nd Battalion of the Delhi Armed Police.
Nigerian heldNEW DELHI: A Nigerian national has been arrested by the Special Cell of the Delhi police on charges of stealing data belonging to the company for which he worked.
The accused, Alfred Adebare, allegedly copied the data illegally from the computers of a law firm, Titus & Co., which comprised information about its clients. Alfred Adebare then established another company and started operating independently.
The police said he was released on bail on a personal bond of Rs. 1 lakh and a surety of like amount.
