Old couple stabbed
NEW DELHI: In yet another attack on senior citizens in the Capital, a septuagenarian couple was stabbed by unidentified assailants at their Chittaranjan Park residence in South Delhi late on Monday night.
Sardar Mohan Singh and his wife were brutally stabbed at their 52/6 C.R. Park house around 11 p.m. The incident came to light when a profusely bleeding Mohan Singh went to the house of a neighbour and reportedly told them, "I have been stabbed". Thereafter, Mr Singh, who had sharp injury marks on his chest and hand, collapsed. When the neighbours rushed to his house upstairs, they found his wife had also been attacked. The couple was rushed to Max Hospital nearby where they were operated upon. Senior police officers including the Deputy Commissioner of Police rushed to the scene of crime. They said the couple was in the process of selling a property and it could be a motive behind the incident. Further investigations are on.
Probe plea rejected
NEW DELHI: The Delhi High Court on Monday rejected a demand for a post mortem on the body of Bahujan Samaj Party leader Kanshi Ram and a judicial inquiry into his death.
His siblings Harbans Singh and Swarna Kaur had sought the direction from the court.
They mentioned the matter before a Division Bench comprising Justice Vijender Jain and Justice Kailash Gambhir. The Bench transferred it to Justice S.N. Aggarwal.
Mr. Justice Aggarwal dismissed the plea saying it was known that Kanshi Ram had been ailing and his demise was not an unnatural death. He advised them to participate in the last rites of their departed brother, and directed the police to provide protection for them to attend the cremation ceremony, which was held at Nigam Bodh Ghat.
