Moninder sent to judicial custody

NEW DELHI: Moninder Singh, an accused in the Nithari serial killings, who has been in CBI custody for about six weeks now, was sent to 14-day judicial custody by Ghaziabad court special judge Sapna Mishra on Friday.

Meanwhile, the recording of the confessional statement of another accused Surinder Koli continued for the second day before a Patiala House Metropolitan Magistrate here.

Metro services to be curtailed on Holi

NEW DELHI: Metro Rail services will not be available to passengers till 2 p.m. on all three lines - Shahdara-Rithala, Vishwa Vidyalaya-Central Secretariat and Indraprastha-Dwarka Sector 9 -- this Sunday on account of Holi.

The services will start after 2 p.m. and continue normally thereafter.

Australian national dies in hotel

NEW DELHI: A 55-year-old Australian national died at Hotel Claridges here in the early hours of Friday. The police suspect it to be a case of natural death.

M. Smith had checked in at the Claridges on Thursday evening. It is learnt that around 2-30 a.m. he complained of chest pain. A doctor was called in from Apollo Hospital, but Mr. Smith did not survive.

The police are awaiting the post-mortem report to ascertain the exact cause of death.

Young man held on murder charges

NEW DELHI: A young man has been arrested on charges of killing his brother at Dwarka in South-West Delhi on Thursday.

The incident took place on Thursday night when Suresh, who was allegedly drunk, started abusing his mother. His elder brother Jai Kishore tried to intervene at which Suresh got into a fight with him. Jai Kishore allegedly lost his temper and hit Suresh with a spade. Suresh sustained serious injuries and was rushed to Deen Dayal Upadhyaya Hospital where he was declared dead on arrival.

The police have registered a case of murder and arrested Jai Kishore. During interrogation, he purportedly disclosed that Suresh used to ill-treat his mother, which he could not withstand.

New Arthroplasty Association president

NEW DELHI: Professor O. N. Nagi, senior consultant and joint replacement surgeon at Sir Ganga Ram Hospital, has taken over as president of the Indian Arthroplasty Association replacing Dr. P. S. Maini. Prof. Nagi has performed over 7,000 joint replacement surgeries and is credited with special modifications in surgical techniques for minimal invasive surgery for total hip and knee replacements.
