Doctor killed, husband injured

NEW DELHI: A 32-year-old doctor was killed and her husband, also a doctor, sustained serious injuries when an Army jeep rammed into their Santro car near the Man Singh Road intersection here on Thursday. The jeep driver has been arrested.

The mishap took place around 8 a.m. when the jeep driven by Nayak Vijay Kumar rammed into the Santro in which Harsha Awani Munshi and her husband Miheer Munshi were travelling. The couple sustained serious injuries and were rushed to Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital.

Harsha was declared dead on arrival, while Miheer was admitted. The police said Miheer was unfit to make a statement on Thursday night.

A case of causing death due to rash and negligent driving has been registered at the Tilak Marg police station and Nayak Vijay Kumar arrested. The couple worked in a hospital on Kasturba Gandhi Marg.

Two arrested

NEW DELHI: Two persons were arrested at Alipur in North-West Delhi on Thursday by the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) for alleged involvement in smuggling of charas. The agency claimed to have recovered over 1,200 kg of high-quality charas being transported in a container.

While NCB officials refused to divulge the names of the two culprits stating that a hunt is on for other members of the cartel, it is learnt that over 80 per cent of the seized charas is of Nepali origin. The rest is suspected to be from Himachal Pradesh. The culprits are being interrogated to find out the destination of the consignment.

Patiala school wins design contest

NEW DELHI: Team Force School from Patiala will take part in the finals of the "International Space Settlement Design Competition" to be held at Houston in the US later this year.

They were adjudged winners at the four-day third Asian Regional Space Settlement Design Competition" held at Brahma Kumaris Om Shanti Retreat Centre in nearby Manesar this past Monday. In the semi-finals, the participating teams had to prepare designs for colonies in space where over 10,000 people could live.

Republic Day celebrated

NEW DELHI: Col. Satsangi's Kiran Memorial Public School celebrated Republic Day by organising several activities for its students on the school premises. Besides a cultural programme of song and dance, environment education was also imparted to the students.

Institute to celebrate Foundation Day
