32 commercial properties sealed

NEW DELHI: The Supreme Court-appointed Monitoring Committee visited Aurobindo Marg here on Thursday and ordered sealing of offices operating from within the boundary of the ancient Hauz Khas Fort. In all, the Municipal Corporation of Delhi sealed 32 commercial properties in residential areas of the Capital on Thursday.

During its visit, the Monitoring Committee noticed that offices were operating from behind an iron gate inside the boundary wall of the ancient Fort and ordered sealing of the premises immediately. The Committee observed that an office running within the boundary walls of an ancient monument and that too on a main road in the Capital was an obvious case of encroachment.

Security tightened at Delhi airport

NEW DELHINEW DELHINEW DELHINEW DELHI: With Republic Day just round the corner, security at Delhi airport has been tightened. Visitors' entry to the airport will be banned from this Sunday till after January 26 as part of the security restrictions.

"Visitors will not be allowed to enter the terminals till January 28. We are taking this precaution in view of Republic Day,'' said a Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) officer on Thursday.

While the airport had been on high alert following threats by Kashmiri militants groups earlier in the month, visitors' entry to the terminal buildings had not been stopped. However, more stringent measures are being put into place for Republic Day.

Old woman stabbed to death in East Delhi

NEW DELHINEW DELHINEW DELHINEW DELHI: A 60-year-old woman was stabbed to death allegedly by burglars at Kabir Nagar in East Delhi on Thursday.

According to the police, two burglars broke into the house of Naseema in Welcome area and allegedly inflicted serious injuries on her after she refused to part with money and valuables. She was taken to a nearby hospital where she was declared brought dead.

Businessman held for alleged murder

NEW DELHINEW DELHINEW DELHINEW DELHI: A 32-year-old businessman wanted in connection with the murder of his wife has been arrested by the Crime Branch of the Delhi police.

The accused, Mohammad Nazaran alias Ashish Malhotra, had allegedly stabbed his wife Jainab Naz to death in the presence of their daughter Vinish Malhotra in Bangalore recently. The Bangalore police have been informed of the arrest.
